About Us

Magdalena M. Gebska-Wojdynska, M.D., Founder and President
Dr. Wojdynska received her medical degree from the Medical University of Warsaw, Poland, where she also completed two years in Residency in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology.  She left Poland prior to completion of her training and immigrated to the United States.  Due to her interest in the mind-body connection, she pursued Residency in Psychiatry and  completed her training at Duke University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She has been in private practice (Center for Adult Psychiatry, P.A. www.caparaleigh.com) since 1994, combining her expertise in Psychopharmacology with her experience in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology.  Initialy she specialized in Women's Mental Health, Mood and Anxiety Disorders.   Her work with women led her to the realization that many of her patients suffered from undiagnosed, and thus unaddressed, life long problems with attention.  Over time, Dr. Wojdynska became an expert in the field of Adult Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder.

Recognizing that medication provides only temporary and partial control of ADHD related symptoms, Dr. Wojdynska became interested in lasting results of Neurofeedback, and, to learn about it, she completed the EEG Biofeedback didactic training through the ADD Centre, Biofeedback Institute of Toronto in 2005.

In the same year she opened the Institute for Personal Excellence, P.A., a Brain Fitness Center, to offer to adults and children the opportunity to learn to regulate their own brains.  Dr. Wojdynska continues to search for new science- and research-based tools which aid people in various stages of life to gain the sense of control, and to reach and to sustain full emotional and intellectual potential, leading to a more lasting improvement in their overall state of being.

Lisa Ellis, Director of Operations, Life/ADHD Coach
Lisa Ellis has been with the Institute for Personal Excellence, P.A. from its inception in 2005, organizing and implementing the various programs offered by the Institute to provide a full spectrum of services to its clients.  Having left in the fall of 2006 to pursue additional education in Psychology at North Carolina State University, she returned as the Director of Operations for the Institute in the fall of 2008.  Having completed the EEG Biofeedback didactic training through the ADD Centre, Biofeedback Institute of Toronto in 2005 with additional EEG Neurofeedback training through EEG Spectrum in 2008, Ms. Ellis sees the benefits of offering a individualized program of  Biofeedback, Neurofeedback, and Cognitive training, coupled with appropriate coaching, to assist clients reach their personal optimal level of performance in life, work and play.

Ms. Ellis has vast experience in the business world, including projects development , business management and medical office management. A parent of two children with Attention Deficit Disorder, Ms. Ellis has been advocating for the ADHD students and adults and has served as a Resource Advocate for the community in the Raleigh/Cary areas since 1990. Trained through the American Coaching Association in 2001 as a Life Coach specializing in ADHD, Ms. Ellis is able to utilize her skills, knowledge, and experience to coach clients to reach the goals that they desire to attain.

Lucy Chartier, Ph.D., NP, BCIA-EEG Fellow, Consulting Neurofeedback Expert
Dr. Chartier holds a doctorate in clinical psychology and masters degrees in humanistic education and psychiatric nursing.  She has been in private clinical practice since 1984 as a psychotherapist and since 1996 as a neurotherapist, specializing in  QEEG assessment and neurofeedback treatment for the remediation of central nervous system inefficiencies resulting in attentional challenges, anxiety, depression, central processing disorders, autism spectrum disorders, seizures, and sleep disorders; and cognitive challenges resulting from acquired injuries such as traumatic brain disorders and cerebral vascular accidents (CVA/stroke).

Dr. Chartier is a charter member of the Society for the Advancement of Brain Analysis (SABA), a professional association committed to: 1) the practice of cutting edge science  in central nervous system treatment; 2) development and refinement of brain analysis and training software; and 3) training and education in quantitative EEG collection, analysis, and related neurofeedback training including approaches to cognitive performance enhancement and effective age management.

Gail Barefoot, Test Facilitator/Account Receivable Specialist
Educated at Hardbarger's Business College, Gail Barefoot has 35 years of experience in the Mental Health and HR industries.  At the Institute, Ms. Barefoot  facilitates  computerized assessments for both attention and cognition.

Ms. Barefoot  provides administrative expertise to  the Institute's clients including offering program information, scheduling, and maintaining payment records, to assure client satisfaction.

Cornelia Williams, Test Facilitator/Client Care Specialist
Cornelia  Williams graduated from the Mandle School for Medical and Administrative Coordinating in New York City, NY.  She has worked in the mental health industry for 15 years, ranging from HMO's to private practice groups, including coordination of  Habilitation and Respite services for developmentally challenged and autistic children.  For the Institute, Ms. Wiliams facilitates computerized assessments for both attention and cognition.

Ms. Williams also provides administrative expertise to  the Institute's clients in the areas of supplying information about programs offered, scheduling, and office flow, to assure client satisfaction.
